The Lion King Plays 7,000th Performance on Broadway

The musical is one of only three in Broadway history to reach this milestone.

Disney's Tony Award-winning The Lion King will celebrate 7,000 Broadway performances at 7pm on September 3rd at the Minskoff Theatre. Only three shows in Broadway history have reached this milestone.

Since its premiere, The Lion King has been translated into eight languages and has played 18 countries. There are ten concurrent worldwide productions of The Lion King, the highest number of productions running at any one time in the show's history. Five of those productions have been running for 10 years or longer.

Directed by Julie Taymor, The Lion King features a score by Elton John and Tim Rice, with additional musical material by Lebo M, Mark Mancina, Jay Rifkin, Julie Taymor, and Hans Zimmer. The book was adapted by Roger Allers and Irene Mecchi. Other members of the creative team include Michael Curry, Steven Canyon Kennedy, Michael Ward, John Stefaniuk, Marey Griffith, Clemente Ishmael, and Doc Zorthian.
