Jim Parsons to Star in One-Night Benefit Reading of Merton of the Movies
The Big Bang Theory star previously appeared on Broadway in The Normal Heart and Harvey.
Jim Parsons, four-time Emmy Award-winning star of television's The Big Bang Theory, is set to return to Roundabout Theatre Company in a one-night reading of George S. Kaufman and Marc Connelly's Merton of the Movies. The benefit event will take place December 1 at Studio 54. Scott Ellis will direct.
In Merton of the Movies, it's the era of silent movies, and no one loves them more than Merton Gill (Parsons). A store clerk from a small town in Illinois, Gill uses his life's savings to head to Hollywood — determined to make it as an actor.
Parsons was most recently seen on Broadway as Elwood Dowd in the Roundabout's 2012 revival of Mary Chase's Harvey. In 2011, Parsons made his debut Broadway performance as Tommy Boatwright in Larry Kramer's Tony-winning The Normal Heart. Recently, he went on to star in HBO's original movie adaptation of the play.
