Jerry Lewis will make his Broadway directorial debut when he helms the new musical, The Nutty Professor, which is aiming to open during the 2010/2011 season at a theater to be announced.

Based on the 1963 film (which Lewis co-wrote and starred in), the show will feature music by Marvin Hamlisch, with book and lyrics by Rupert Holmes. The story centers on dull geek Professor Julius Kelp, who creates a potion that transforms him into a smooth talking, party animal named Buddy Love.

Lewis has appeared on Broadway in Damn Yankees! and Jerry Lewis at The Palace. He has numerous film credits as performer, director, writer, producer, and sometimes as all four, including The Bell Boy, The Ladies Man, It's Only Money, The Delicate Delinquent, and The King of Comedy.

Hamlisch has won the Pulitzer Prize, along with the Oscar, Emmy, and Tony Awards. He's best known for the musical A Chorus Line. Holmes won Tonys for his book and lyrics to The Mystery of Edwin Drood, and was most recently represented on Broadway by Curtains, for which he received a Drama Desk Award and Tony nominations.
