Ellen Burstyn, Boyd Gaines, Kathleen Turner, and More Set for Reading of Our Class
The one-night-only event, directed by Cosmin Chivu, marks the New York debut of the Tadeusz Słobodzianek play.
Following runs at London's National Theater and Philadelphia's Wilma Theater, the Temple Emanu-El Skirball Center and the Polish Cultural Institute New York will present a one-night-only staged reading of Tadeusz Słobodzianek's Our Class on Monday, April 13, at 7pm at Temple Emanu-El.
The cast will include Emmy, Oscar, and Tony winner Ellen Burstyn, Alvin Epstein, Tony nominee Boyd Gaines, Mamie Gummer (The Good Wife), Randy Harrison (Queer as Folk), Grant Kretchik, Brian Murray, John Pankow (Mad About You), and Austin Pendleton. Cosmin Chivu directs the reading, which will include original music by Jesse Selengut.
Previously announced performers Nina Arianda, Kim Cattrall, and Hunter Parrish are no longer available to participate in the reading.
Our Class follows a group of 10 classmates, Catholics and Jews, from 1925 to the present. Victims and perpetrators are bound together and grow up in a country torn apart by the effects of war, betrayal, cruelty, and repression. Inspired by true events, the play is based on Neighbors: The Destruction of the Jewish Community in Jedwabne, Poland by Jan Tomasz Gross.
Following the performance, Tadeusz Słobodzianek will speak about his creative process and will answer questions from the audience.
