Elevator Repair Service, Tectonic Theatre Project Among 2012 Recipients of Tony Randall Theatrical Fund Grants
The Tectonic Theatre Project and the Brooklyn Academy of Music have received the fund for The Laramie Project, a documentary about sensitive topics such as homophobia and human rights. The Lincoln Center Theater is honored for their new LCT3 space for emerging artists to present their work to audiences. The Pregones Theater produces meaningful performances for Spanish-speaking audiences. The Red Bull Theatre performs heightened-language plays from the Jacobean era. Playwrights Horizons offers discounted tickets for students and theatergoers. The Elevator Repair Service has re-invented theatrical forms of various types. All four are similarly honored with a grant.
Outside of New York, The Rude Mechs, which produces ensemble-created works, in Austin, Texas, as well as The Actor's Gang Prison Project, which enables socially relevant theater inside prison systems in the city, in Los Angeles, California, have also received this prize.
