Dodger/Stage Holding Will Open New Five-Theater Complex in 2003 logo

Theatrical giant Dodger/Stage Holding is proceeding with plans to renovate a former Loews cinema on the West Side of Manhattan between 50th and 51st streets to create a new theater complex, Variety reported yesterday.

The complex will house five Off-Broadway theaters--two with 499 seats each, two with 400 seats, and the fifth with 299 seats. They will share a central box office located in the complex, which will also include a restaurant. The opening of the complex is projected for September 2003.

Dodger/Stage Holding is a partnership between the producing organization Dodger and the Dutch-based Stage Holding (formerly Endemol), owned by multimillionaire Joop van den Ende. The outfit produced Urinetown and the revival of Into the Woods this season. The new theater complex is intended to house future Dodger/Stage Holding productions but its venues will also be available for rental.
