A Raisin in the Sun's David Cromer and Stephen McKinley Henderson Join the Judging Panel of August Wilson Monologue Competition
Students will honor the legacy of the Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright in his eponymous Broadway theater.
Jujamcyn Theaters and Kenny Leon's True Colors Theatre Company have announced the panel of judges for the sixth annual August Wilson Monologue Competition, set for May 5 at the August Wilson Theatre, the current home of Broadway's Jersey Boys.
The event, which is free and open to the public, will feature high school students from Atlanta, Boston, Chicago, Los Angeles, New York, Pittsburgh, and Seattle performing monologues penned by the late Pulitzer Prize-winning American playwright.
The judges will include three members of the Raisin in the Sun production — stage manager Narda E. Alcorn, director/actor David Cromer, and Tony-nominated actor Stephen McKinley Henderson — as well as the wife of Denzel Washington, actress Pauletta Washington, and actor James A. Williams (Radio Golf).
The evening of performances will also include presentations by August Wilson veterans and special musical guests, to be announced at a later date.
