Glenn Close, Viola Davis, Meryl Streep Receive Oscar Nominations

Nominations have been announced for the 84th Annual Academy Awards, to be handed out on Sunday, February 26 in Los Angeles and aired live on ABC. Billy Crystal will host the ceremony.


Best Picture nominees are The Artist, The Descendants, Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close, The Help, Hugo, Midnight in Paris, Moneyball, The Tree of Life. and War Horse.


Stage veteran Woody Allen received both a Best Director and Best Screenplay nomination for Midnight in Paris. In addition, playwright John Logan was nominated for the screenplay for Hugo; Aaron Sorkin received a nomination for the screenplay for Moneyball, and Beau Willimon received a nomination for the screenplay for The Ides of March, based on his play Farragut North.


Stage veterans who received acting nominations include Demian Bechir (A Better Life), Kenneth Branagh (My Week With Marilyn, Jessica Chastain (The Help), Glenn Close (Albert Nobbs), Viola Davis (The Help), Janet McTeer (Albert Nobbs), Christopher Plummer (Beginners), Meryl Streep (The Iron Lady), Octavia Spencer (The Help), and Michelle Williams (My Week With Marilyn).
