Performances of Endgame, written by Nobel Prize winner Samuel Beckett (Waiting for Godot), begin this evening at the Kirk Douglas Theatre.

In the absurdist world of Endgame, four characters — Hamm, Clov, Nell, and Nagg — are suspended between life and death. However, preparation for oblivion takes a long time, and the group attempts to cling to sanity as they are confronted by endless and cyclical nothingness. Through the performance of occasionally comical daily rituals, they present a funny and macabre outlook on life itself.

Alan Mandell, who also stars in the show as Hamm, directs the Beckett classic. Performing alongside Mandell are Barry McGovern as Clov and James Greene as Nagg, with Charlotte Rae and Anne Gee Byrd alternating in the role of Nell.

The creative team includes John Iacovelli (set design), Maggie Morgan (costume design), Jared A. Sayeg (lighting design), and Cricket Myers (sound design).

Performances will run through May 22.
