Douglas Hodge to Go From Cyrano to Willy Wonka
Tony Award winner Douglas Hodge, who stars as the title character in the new Broadway revival of Cyrano de Bergerac that opens tonight at the American Airlines Theatre, will soon be trading one iconic role for another. He's just been officially announced to play Willy Wonka in the new Sam Mendes-helmed stage musical of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, to begin performances at the Theatre Royal Drury Lane on May 18, 2013.
The production will feature set and costume designs by Mark Thompson and choreography by Peter Darling.
Hodge won Tony, Drama Desk and Outer Critics Circle Awards for his starring performance in La Cage Aux Folles. He is also a four time Olivier-nominated actor/director, who has worked at the National Theatre, the RSC, Shakespeare's Globe and the Royal Court Theatre.
