For a second year, in collaboration with the American Theatre Wing, the National Endowment for the Arts is calling for applications for the Musical Theater Songwriting Challenge, a national contest for high school students with a passion for writing songs that could be part of a musical-theater production.

As with last year, the Songwriting Challenge will again pair six finalist songwriters, either single songwriters or duos, with professional musical theater artists to develop the students' original songs into a Broadway-stage-ready composition. Disney Theatrical Productions and Samuel French Inc. will once again be Songwriting Challenge partners.

"Cultivating young talent is crucial for our industry and for our world," said Heather Hitchens, president and CEO of the American Theatre Wing, in a statement. "I am thrilled to once again be partnering with the National Endowment for the Arts, Disney Theatrical Productions, and Samuel French on the Songwriting Challenge, which furthers our commitment to the next generation."

The application deadline is April 30 at midnight ET.
