Flashback Friday: Network Opens and Faye Dunaway Announces a Broadway Return

Coincidence? We think not.

It's fitting that Faye Dunaway's grand return to the New York stage was announced the same day as Network's Broadway opening. Dunaway famously won an Academy Award in 1976 for her performance as ruthless TV executive Diana Christensen, now being portrayed at the Belasco Theatre by Tatiana Maslany. A few years following her Oscar win came her last turn on Broadway in The Curse of an Aching Heart, which ran for only a month in 1982.

Now, after over 35 years, Dunaway is returning to the stage as Katharine Hepburn in the Broadway premiere of Tea at Five, a one-woman play written by Matthew Lombardo and based on Hepburn's book Me: Stories of My Life. We don't have much information, beyond the fact that the play is set for a summer 2019 engagement, so in the meantime, all we can do is watch Dunaway's award-winning telephone meltdown scene from Network and anticipate the genius that Broadway has in store.
