David Cromer, who recently won a Tony Award for his direction of The Band's Visit, will return to acting this fall in the Broadway premiere of Kenneth Lonergan's The Waverly Gallery, directed by Lila Neugebauer. The production begins performances at the Golden Theatre on September 25, with opening night set for October 25.

Cromer completes a cast that includes Michael Cera, Elaine May, Lucas Hedges, and Joan Allen. As previously announced, the creative team of The Waverly Gallery includes David Zinn (scenic design), Ann Roth (costume design), and Brian MacDevitt (lighting design).

A powerfully poignant and often hilarious play, The Waverly Gallery is about the final years of a generous, chatty, and feisty grandmother's battle against Alzheimer's disease. Gladys is an old-school lefty, a social activist, and a longtime owner of a small art gallery in Greenwich Village. The play explores her fight to retain her independence and the subsequent effect of her decline on her family, especially her grandson.
