Debbie Allen, Andy Blankenbuehler, Judith Ivey, et al. Receive Suzi Award Nominations

The nominations for the 2010-2011 Suzi Awards, which recognize excellence in Atlanta Theatre, have been announced. The prizes will be presented in a ceremony to be held on Monday, November 7 at the Conant Center of Oglethorpe University.

Among the most nominated productions is Horizon Theatre's staging of Avenue Q, which received 13 nominations, including one in the Musical Production category. Also nominated in this category is the Alliance Theatre's Bring It On: The Musical, which received eight nominations, including two for Andy Blankenbuehler, nominated in the Director Musical and Choreography categories. Other nominated shows in the Musical Production category are Gut Bucket Blues (Kenny Leon's True Colors Theatre Company), Rent (Atlanta Lyric Theatre), and Singin' in the Rain (Aurora Theatre).

Among the other nominees in musical categories are Debbie Allen, who received a nomination for her choreography for Twist as well as performers Leslie Bellair and Jeff McKerley, who received two nominations apiece, Felica Boswell, and Justin Tanner.

In dramatic categories, three shows from the Alliance -- August: Osage County, Carapace, and The Nacirema Society Requests the Honor of Your Presence at a Celebration of Their First One Hundred Years have been nominated in the Production Play category, alongside Horizon Theatre's Superior Donuts and Theatre on the Square's The Little Foxes. The Alliance's Carapace has received six nominations, including one for Judith Ivey in Director Play category.

Among the other nominees in non-musical categories are director Jeff Adler and Susan V. Booth, as well as performers Brenda Bynum, Carolyn Cook, who received two nominations, and David de Vries.
