Neil LaBute, Lynn Nottage, Paula Vogel Create New Monologues for CENTERSTAGE 50th Anniversary Season

CENTERSTAGE has announced plans for its upcoming 2012-2013 50th anniversary season, which will revolve around the notion of conversation.
As part of its anniversary celebration, CENTERSTAGE has commissioned 50 monologues from 50 of America’s leading writers including Lynn Nottage, Paula Vogel, Naomi Wallace, Christopher Durang, Neil LaBute, and Anna Deveare Smith. These monologues will explore the questions “Where is my America?” and “What is my America?” and will be filmed by Possible Films to premiere during opening weekend.
The first production of the season will be an Arthur Miller adaptation of Henrik Ibsen’s An Enemy of the People (September 19-October 21), a debate between a divided community. Kwame Kwei-Armah will direct. Next, CENTERSTAGE will present Stephen Thorne’s madcap The Completely Fictional–Utterly True–Final Strange Tale of Edgar Allan Poe (October 17-November 25), directed by Curt Columbus and featuring Bruce Nelson. Mark Lamos will direct Edward Albee’s play about a couple entering the so-called quieter years of life A Delicate Balance (November 21-December 23).
To kick off 2013, CENTERSTAGE will present Katori Hall’s play about the last night in the life of Martin Luther King, Jr., The Mountaintop (January 9-February 24), directed by Kwame Kwei-Armah. Then, Susanna Gellert will direct the world premiere of Marisa Wegrzyn’s Mud Blue Sky (March 6-April 14), an examination of fears and hopes and how we negotiate with them. The season will end with The Raisin Cycle, a rotating repertory of plays about race including Bruce Norris’ Clybourne Park (April 10-June 9) and the world premiere of Beneatha’s Place (May 8-June 9) by Kwame Kwei-Armah. Derrick Sanders will direct both plays.
