GALA Hispanic Theatre to Present Occupy GALA

GALA Hispanic Theatre is set to present Occupy Gala, April 13 and 14 at 8pm. Quique Avilés, as Don Ama “El Canuto del Roc,” will emcee.

Occupy GALA will be an artistic response to political and social realities by DC artists. Artists are encouraged to make use of all levels of the space, from the sidewalk to the lobby, the theater auditorium, and the parking lot roof.

Performers will include E. Ethelbert Miller, Carlos Parada, Kenneth Carroll, Silvana Straw, Luci Murphy, and B Stanley as well as the music groups Machetres, Los Nayas, and Anexo Social. The performance artists and poets featured will be Matthew Vaky, Elana, and Ruth Young & Marguax Delott-Bent.

Other musical acts will be Henry Mills, Ardamus, Eric David, and Latin percussionists Iván Navas, Benito López, Robertico, and Alfredito Mojica. There will also be a performance by the Latin American folk group Rumisonko.

Artists representing other art forms will include Juan Pineda, Iván Mendizibal, Juan López, Mauricio López, Alfredo Herrera, Puppet Underground, Ronald Chacón, Barbara Quintard, and Alberto Roblest.
