John O’Hurley to Join Touring Company of Chicago in May

John O’Hurley will star as Billy Flynn in the national touring company production of Chicago, beginning with an engagement at Devos Hall in Grand Rapids, Michigan (May 10-11).

Subsequent stops will include the Fisher Theatre in Detroit (May 17-22); Conexus Arts Centre in Regina, SK in Canada (May 30 & 31); the Civic Center in Des Moines, Iowa (June 2-5); the Oriental Theatre in Chicago (June 7-12); the Robinson Center in Little Rock, AR (June 14-16); and Bass Performance Hall in Fort Worth (June 17-19).

O’Hurley has previously played the role in the Broadway production of the musical. He is best known for his appearances on the ABC reality show Dancing with the Stars and for his role of J. Peterman on the hit sitcom Seinfeld. He has also starred on numerous soap operas, including Santa Barbara, General Hospital, and The Young and the Restless, and he hosts the game show Family Feud. Among his other theatrical credits are productions of Monty Python’s Spamalot, The Pirates of Penzance and Gentlemen Prefer Blondes.

With a book by Fred Ebb and Bob Fosse, music by John Kander and lyrics by Fred Ebb, Chicago is the winner of six 1997 Tony Awards including Best Musical Revival and the Grammy award for Best Musical Cast Recording.

The national tour is directed by Scott Faris and choreographed by Gary Chryst. Walter Bobbie is the director of the original New York production and Ann Reinking was the original choreographer in the style of Bob Fosse.

Chicago features set design by John Lee Beatty, costume design by William Ivey Long, lighting design by Ken Billington and sound design by Scott Lehrer. The production also features orchestrations by Ralph Burns, supervising music direction by Rob Fisher.
