By Bethany Rickwald • Mar 28, 2012 • Savannah
Georgia Shakespeare has announced the productions set for its 2012 Shakespeare in the Park season of free theater

The season's first offering will be William Shakespeare's The Tempest (May 9 - 13) in Piedmont Park.

Then, Georgia Shakespeare will present the remainder of the season at the Conant Performing Arts Center at Oglethorpe University, staring with Illyria: a Twelfth Night Musical (June 6 -August 5), an adaptation by John R. Briggs of the Shakespeare play. Illyria will feature Chris Kayser (Sir Toby Belch) and Tess Malis Kincaid (Maria). Producing artistic director Richard Garner will direct the comic romance Much Ado About Nothing (June 21-August 4), featuring Courtney Patterson (Beatrice), Joe Knezevich (Benedick), Ann Marie Gideon (Hero), and Eugene H. Russell IV (Claudio).

Courtney Patterson and Bethany Anne Lind will star in The Importance of Being Earnest (July 5-August 3), Oscar Wilde's comedic masterpiece. Next, the season will provide family fun with The Emperor and the Nightingale (July 14-August 3), adapted from the story by Hans Christian Andersen and staring Terrance Jackson and Ann Marie Gideon. Finally, the season will come to a close with a re-imagined production of Macbeth (October 4 - 28), inspired by Orson Welles' Voodoo Macbeth and presented in partnership with National Black Arts Festival.

The season's special events will include a celebration of Shakespeare's Birthday on April 21 and the Bard's Bash 2012: A Wilde Night gala on May 4.
