August, Ever After, Grease, Wicked to Play San Francisco

SHN has announced four of the five selections for its 2008-2009 Best of Broadway series. A fifth show in the series will be announced next month.

As previously reported, the Orpheum Theatre will host a new sit-down production of the Stephen Schwartz-Winnie Holzman musical Wicked, beginning in February, while the Golden Gate Theatre will host the national touring company of the Broadway revival of Grease, directed by Kathleen Marshall, starting in March.

In April, the Curran will house the pre-Broadway tryout of the musical Ever After, based on the Drew Barrrymore film, featuring a book by Theresa Rebeck and Marcy Heisler, a score by Heisler and her long-time collaborator Zina Goldrich, and direction by Tony Award winner Doug Hughes. That show will be followed in August by the national tour of Tracy Letts’ Pulitzer-Prize winning drama August: Osage County.
