Stephen Schwartz to Receive Pittsburgh CLO’s Richard Rodgers Award

Pittsburgh CLO, in conjunction with the families of Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein II and The Rodgers & Hammerstein Organization, will present the 12th Richard Rodgers Award for Excellence in Musical Theater to Stephen Schwartz. The ceremony will be held at the Omni William Penn Hotel, as part of the 2009 CLO Guild’s Pink Frolic Ball on May 9.

The award recognizes the lifetime contributions of outstanding talents in musical theater.
Past recipients include Mary Martin, Dame Julie Andrews, Harold Prince, Sir Cameron Mackintosh, Stephen Sondheim, Lord Andrew Lloyd Webber, Gwen Verdon, Bernadette Peters, Shirley Jones, Kathleen Marshall, and Rob Marshall.

Schwartz is currently represented on Broadway by the musical Wicked, for which he received a Tony nomination for best score. He was also Tony nominated for his lyrics to Rags, his book and score for Working, and his scores to Godspell and Pippin.
