Phantom breaks a record, The Little Dog Laughed opens, and celebs participate in The New York Times Arts & Leisure Weekend.

Better than Cats: With its 7,486th performance on Monday, January 9, The Phantom of the Opera became the longest running show in Broadway history. The event garnered much media attention and was celebrated with a masked ball at the Waldorf-Astoria following the performance. The man behind the mask in this photo is Howard McGillin, who's currently starring as the Phantom.

















Here's another shot of McGillin, sans mask.





















Among the celebrants was Michael Crawford, who created the title role of the Phantom in the original London and Broadway productions of Phantom.



















And here's original cast member George Lee Andrews, who's still in the show!




















Also on Monday, Douglas Carter Beane's The Little Dog Laughed opened at Second Stage. The after-party was held at Planet Hollywood. Here's TV, film, and stage star Johnny Galecki, who plays a hustler with a heart of gold in the comedy.


















Here's the fabulous Julie White, whose brilliant performance as a Hollywood agent in the show is the stuff of theater legend.



















And here are Neal Huff and Zoe Lister-Jones, who respectively play (1) a closeted gay movie star who falls in love with the hustler, and (2) the hustler's girlfriend.
