William Christie, Katie Mitchell, et al. Set for Festival d’Aix-en-Provence

Initial selections have been announced for the Festival d’Aix-en-Provence, to run July 5-25.


Katie Mitchell will direct the world premiere of George Benjamin’s opera Written on Skin, in which a wealthy landowner’s decision to invite an artist to his home to create a book of illuminations leads to his wife’s rebellion.


The festival will also present the world premiere of Une Situation Huey P. Newton created by Jean Michel Bruyère and LFKs, with music by Thierry Arredondo, Laurent Dailleu, et Charles-Edouard de Surville; Marc-Antoine Charpentier’s David et Jonathas to be staged by Andreas Homoki and conducted by William Christie, leading Les Arts Florissants; Arnaud Meunire’s staging of a chamber version of Maurice Ravel’s short opera, L’Enfant et les sortileges, and two Mozart works, La finta giardiniera and Le nozze di Figaro.
