Tony Award winner Al Pacino will join Robert De Niro and Joe Pesci in the film The Irishman, according to a report on MTV Movie Blog. Martin Scorsese will direct the picture, which is scheduled to start production next year.

The project is based on Charles Brandt’s book I Heard You Paint Houses and follows a World War II vet-turned-mob hitman with rumored ties to the assassinations of President Kennedy and Jimmy Hoffa.

Pacino is currently starring in The Merchant of Venice on Broadway. He is a two-time Tony Award winner for his work in Does a Tiger Wear a Necktie? and The Basic Training of Pavlo Hummel. His other Broadway appearances include American Buffalo, Hughie, and Salome. He won an Oscar for Scent of Woman and Emmy Awards for his performances in HBO’s Angels in America and You Don’t Know Jack.
