The Bill T. Jones/Arnie Zane Dance Company and Dance Theater Workshop plan to merge their organizations into a combination producing and presenting entity to be called New York Live Arts.
The new nonprofit group, which will be housed in Dance Theater Workshop’s building on West 19th Street in Chelsea, will be led by two-time Tony Award winner Jones, currently represented on Broadway by Fela!, as executive artistic director; Carla Peterson as artistic director; and Jean Davidson, as chief executive and executive director.
The merger, which requires court approval, is atypical in pairing a presenting organization with an artist-led dance company.
