Carey Mulligan to Join Leonardo DiCaprio in Baz Luhrmann’s The Great Gatsby Movie

Academy Award nominee and Broadway veteran Carey Mulligan will play Daisy Buchanan in Baz Lurhmann’s screen adaptation of F. Scott Fitzgerald’s The Great Gatsby, according to a report on Deadline.com.

Leonardo DiCaprio will star as Jay Gatsby in the film, and Tobey Maguire is reportedly in the running for the role of Nick Carraway. No other casting has been announced.

The book centers on a wealthy man on Long Island during the roaring twenties who has a magnetic affect on all who surround him.

Mulligan appeared as Nina in The Seagull in London and on Broadway, earning a Drama Desk Award nomination.

She received an Oscar nomination for her work in An Education, and her other films include Wall Street: Money Never Dies, Never Let Me Go and the forthcoming Drive.

Luhrmann’s films include Strictly Ballroom, which he is turning into a stage musical, as well as Romeo+Juliet, Moulin Rouge and Australia.
