Chita Rivera will receive the 2010 Lifetime Achievement Award from The League of Professional Theatre Women at the organizations’ awards luncheon, to be held at Sardi’s on Thursday, December 9 at Noon. The award, which honors women exhibiting exemplary service to the theatre, will be presented by Rivera’s daughter, singer/dancer/choreographer Lisa Mordente.

Rivera won the Tony Award as Best Actress in a Musical for The Rink and Kiss of the Spider Woman. Her many other Broadway shows also include Bye Bye Birdie, Bajour, Merlin, Bring Back Birdie, Nine, and her autobiographical musical Chita Rivera: The Dancer’s Life. She will next be seen in New York at Birdland, November 26-27, as part of the Broadway at Birdland series.

As previously reported, the luncheon will also honor director/producer Kamilah Forbes with the Josephine Abady Award and playwright Lynn Nottage with the Lee Reynolds Award.
