Big Apple Circus kicks off the New York run of its new show Dance On! today, October 21, and will play its annual season at New York City’s Lincoln Center through January 9, 2011. Broadway veteran Eric Michael Gillett directs.

The circus artists will include a troupe of monocyclists and lasso twirlers from China; a group of Mongolian contortionists; Kenyan athletes who shimmy up a pole as though gravity were a joke; twelve miniature horses in an equine chorus line; and an Ethiopian juggler. Kevin Venardos serves as Ringmaster, with the aid of clowns Rob Torres and Grandma.

The creative team includes choreographer Peter Pucci, Tony Award-winning costume designer Ann Hould-Ward, Tony-winning scenic designer Todd Rosenthal, musical director Rob Slowik, Emmy-winning composer Paul Rolnick, sound designer JP Perreaux, lighting designer Brian Nason, and creative consultant Barry Lubin.

Additional tour stops following the New York engagement will be announced at a later date. As previously reported, Big Apple Circus is featured in the PBS documentary Circus, which will air on Wednesdays, November 3, 10 and 17. Maro Chermayeff and Jeff Dupre have directed the film.
