Placido Domingo Is Latin Grammys Person of the Year

Opera legend Placido Domingo has been named the Latin Grammys Person of the Year for his professional and philanthropic achievements. He will be honored in an all-star ceremony on November 10 in Las Vegas, the night before the Latin Grammys.

One of the world’s greatest tenors, Doming has sung with The Metropolitan Opera in New York City for over 30 years. He is also the General Director of both the Washington National Opera and the Los Angeles Opera, and will star later this month in the latter company’s production of Il Postino. He has won numerous Grammy and Latin Grammy Awards, among other honors

He is the founder of Operalia, a contest for opera singing, and through many benefit concerts he has collected millions of dollars for victims of disasters such as Mexico’s 1985 earthquake and Hurricane Katrina.
