Gill Robertson’s promenade staging of Hansel and Gretel will take audiences throughout The New Victory Theater, October 15-November 1. The production is part of the New Victory Scottish Festival and is presented by Catherine Wheels Theatre Company in association with Brunton Theatre.

The Grimm brothers’ fairytale will literally unfold from the top to the bottom of the theater, and theatergoers, in groups of a 100, will follow the action from, according to press notes, a “kitschy 1970s inspired home through a spooky forest and into the dangerous clutches of a bald-headed witch who is at once nasty, funny, and completely off-her-rocker.”

The cast features Tommy Joe Mullins (Hansel), Ashley Smith (Gretel), Cath Whitefield (stepmother/witch), Steve Kettley (father, saxophonist), and Joel Sanderson (cellist). The creative team includes scenic designer Karen Tennent and lighting designer Jeanine Davies, while Steven Kettley will provide the original score.
