Soprano Dawn Upshaw and scenic and costume designer John Conklin will participate in OPERA America's inaugural Making Connections panels, discussions and classes. The new series is a professional development program for early-career opera artists, including singers, composers, librettists, designers, and directors.

The initial offering will be a panel moderated by Jonah Nigh on preparing for auditions. Joyce DiDonato, Gayletha Nichols and Bill Palant are scheduled to participate. Upshaw will offer a master class featuring music by contemporary composers on October 14. Conklin will be joined by OPERA America's president and CEO Marc A. Scorca for a discussion about scenic and costume design on October 28.

The program will be offered at the OPERA America offices in Manhattan. A reception will follow each panel discussion. Admission for OPERA America members is $5 in advance or $10 at the door. Admission for non-members is $10 in advance or $15 at the door.
