Actor and Equity Executive Donald Grody Has Died

Actor, playwright, and from Actors Equity Executive Director Donald Grody has died. He was 83.

Grody’s Broadway credits include Wonderful Town, Bells Are Ringing, Happy Hunting, Kismet, Gentlemen Prefer Blondes, and, most recently, Jekyll and Hyde, in which he originated the role of Poole.


As a playwright, his work includes both an adaptation of King Lear and the musical play Ira! The African Roscius.

In addition, Grody served as Executive Director of Actors’ Equity Association from 1973-1980.

He is survived by his wife, Judith Anderson; sons Dion, Gordon, James, Jeremy and Patrick and granddaughters Jess, Jo and Cecily.

A celebration of his life and career will be scheduled in the near future. Memorial contributions in his name may be made to The Actors Fund of America or Career Transition For Dancers.
