Joan Cusack has replaced Allison Janney as Sheila in Showtime’ new series, Shameless, about a big blue-collar family in Chicago, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The series, which debuts on January 9, will star William H. Macy and Emmy Rossum.

Cusack won the Theatre World Award for her work in the 1988 Off-Broadway production of Road. She played Imogen in the Public Theater’s 1989 staging of William Shakespeare’s Cymbeline. She is a two-time Oscar nominee for In & Out and Working Girl.

Macy was last seen on Broadway in the revival of Speed-the-Plow. He is a co-founder of the Atlantic Theater Company, where his credits as performer and director include American Buffalo, The Joy of Going Somewhere Definite, Three Sisters, and Boy’s Life. He received an Oscar nomination for Fargo and won two Emmy Awards for starring in and co-writing the telefilm Door to Door.

Rossum is best known for starring in the film version of The Phantom of the Opera and is also a popular recording artist.

On January 10, Showtime will also begin airing the fourth season of Californication; the series stars David Duchovny, who will make his Off-Broadway debut this season in MCC Theatre’s production of The Break of Noon. The series also features stage veterans Carla Gugino and Madeline Martin.
