Kara Lee Corthron to Receive Vineyard’s Paula Vogel Playwriting Award; Colman Domingo to Host Luncheon

Kara Lee Corthron will receive the third annual Paula Vogel Playwriting Award, given annually by The Vineyard Theatre to an emerging playwright of exceptional promise. The award will be presented at a luncheon at the National Arts Club on Thursday, June 17.

Obie Award winner Colman Domingo, who is currently starring in the Broadway production of Chicago and who will be seen on Broadway later this season in The Scottsboro Boys will host the event.

Named in honor of Pulitzer Prize winning playwright and teacher Paula Vogel, the award comes with a cash prize, artistic development support, and a staged reading of the recipient’s work. Previous recipients include Tarell Alvin McCraney and Rajiv Joseph.

Corthron’s plays include Holly Down in Heaven, which received a workshop production at the Vineyard, and the forthcoming Etched in Skin on a Sunless Night.
