Doreen Montalvo to Be Honored at Cabaret Cares Gala; Eric Michael Gillett, Ilene Kristen, et al. to Perform

Broadway veteran Doreen Montalvo will be the recipient of Help Is On The Way Today’s 2011 Spirit Award, to be presented to her at the annual Cabaret Cares gala at The Laurie Beechman Theatre, on May 22 beginning at 6pm.

Montalvo was an original company member of In the Heights, and received a Drama Desk Award as part of that musical’s ensemble. The actress will perform at the gala event, which will also feature 2010 Spirit Award winner Eric Michael Gillett.

Additional performers will include John Demarco, Jackie Fornatale, Robert Fowler, Tom Gamblin, Tony Fusco, Ilene Kristen, Lorinda Lisitza, Peter Napolitano, Barbara Porteus, Gretchen Rainhagen, Kimberly Reid, T.Oliver Reid, and Susan Winter. Valerie Smaldone will host.

Help Is On The Way Today is a non profit organization that helps and assists children and youth living with HIV and AIDS in New York City. Montalvo has organized and hosted several cabaret show benefits for the organization, including two of the Cabaret Cares shows that featured her and other cast members of In The Heights. She also created an evening called Ladies Night and has helped raise thousands of dollars for Help Is On The Way Today over the past two years.
