On Thursday, February 24, Drama Desk Awards Executive Producer Robert R. Blume and Drama Desk President Isa Goldberg held a news conference to announce plans for the 56th Annual Drama Desk Awards. Tony Award winner Harvey Fierstein will host the ceremony, which will take place at 8pm on Monday, May 23 at the Hammerstein Ballroom. The awards honor the best of Broadway, Off-Broadway, and Off-Off-Broadway.
Theater community notables in attendance included Len Cariou, Veanne Cox, Ervin Drake and Edith Drake, Mercedes Ellington, Gregory Jbara, Barry Pearl, Eden Sanaa, KT Sullivan, and Adam Wade.
This year’s ceremony will be filmed in HD for a television broadcast on the Ovation network on June 2 and June 15. The event will include a gala sit-down dinner during the awards presentation. As in past years, TheaterMania will be a media partner for the event.
