Michael Shannon, Benicio Del Toro, James Franco to Star in The Iceman Film

Stage and screen star Michael Shannon, along with Benicio Del Toro and James Franco, will star in The Iceman, according to published reports. Ariel Vromen will direct the film, which he has co-written with Morgan Land.

The Iceman, which is based on Anthony Bruno’s book of the same name and also invterview footage from the documentary The Iceman Tapes, focuses on the true story of Richard Kuklinski (to be played by Shannon), a mob contract killer who earned his nickname by freezing the bodies of his victims.

Shannon is currently starring off-Broadway in Mistakes Were Made. His other New York stage credits include Tracy Letts’ Bug and Killer Joe, Stephen Adly Guirgis’ The Little Flower of East Orange, and Craig Wright’s Lady.

He received an Oscar nomination for his performance in Revolutionary Road. Among his other film credits are Vanilla Sky, Pearl Harbor and Bad Boys II. In addition, he portrays Agent Nelson Van Alden on HBO’s Boardwalk Empire.
