Diary of a Madman, Jersey Boys Among Winners of 2010 Sydney Theatre Awards

The winners of the 2010 Sydney Theatre Awards have been announced. The prizes were presented in a ceremony held on January 17.

Among the biggest winners was the Belvoir company. Its production of Measure for Measure received the Best Mainstage Production Award as well as the Best Director Award for Benedict Andrews. The company’s production of The Diary Of a Madman took home four awards, including the Best Actress in a Supporting Role Award for Yael Stone. This latter production will begin performances on February 11 at the Brooklyn Academy of Music’s Harvey Theatre.

In musical categories, Jersey Boys won the Best Production of a Musical Award. Bobby Fox, who plays Frankie Valli in the show, also received the Best Performance by an Actor in a Musical or Cabaret Award. Christine Anu won the Actress in a Musical or Cabaret Award for her performance in The Sapphires.

In addition to the competitive awards, John Bell received the Lifetime Achievement Award.
