 | | Jessye Norman | Jessye Norman and Anna Deavere Smith will converse at Symphony Space at 7pm on Monday, February 16 in conjunction with Honor! A Celebration of the African American Cultural Legacy, a three-week festival at Carnegie Hall, which is being curated by Norman.
A highlight of the festival will have Norman and Cassandra Wilson, and Hip-Hop group The Rootsas, as the lead performers in Laura Karpman's multimedia concert work Ask Your Mama!, to be held at 8pm on Monday, March 16. The production will be directed by Annie Dorsen and feature George Manahan conducting the Orchestra of St. Luke's. The work is based on poet Langston Hughes' 1961 cycle Ask Your Mama: 12 Moods for Jazz.
