High School Musical Star Vanessa Hudgens to Lead Cast of Broadway-Bound Gigi

High School Musical star Vanessa Hudgens will lead the cast of the upcoming Kennedy Center production of the musical Gigi, according to published reports. Hudgens recently took part in an industry reading of the Lerner and Loewe musical, which features a new book by Heidi Thomas.

The Kennedy Center run will take place from January 16-February 12, with a Broadway bow on the horizon shortly thereafter. Casting and a full timeline will be announced in the coming weeks. Eric Schaeffer helms the musical, with Joshua Bergasse choreographing.

Based on the 1944 novella by Colette, Gigi follows the romance between a wealthy playboy and a young courtesan. The recent reading in which Hudgens took part also starred Tony winner Victoria Clark (Cinderella), Tony nominees Howard McGillin (The Phantom of the Opera) and Kate Burton (Grey's Anatomy), Corey Cott (Newsies), and Steffanie Leigh (Mary Poppins).
