Smash-Inspired Bombshell Concert, With Katharine McPhee and Megan Hilty, Sells Out

Producers Craig Zadan and Neil Meron have announced that the upcoming Actors Fund benefit concert of the musical Bombshell from the TV series Smash, sold out in just over one hour of going on sale. The evening is set to take place on June 8 at Broadway's Minskoff Theatre, and will feature original Smash cast members Christian Borle, Will Chase, Megan Hilty, Katharine McPhee, and Debra Messing. The event will be directed by Joshua Bergasse and Scott Wittman. Bergasse will also serve as choreographer.

Featuring a full score by Tony-winning Hairspray and Catch Me If You Can scribes Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman, excerpts from Bombshell were seen throughout the NBC network drama's first and second seasons, which aired in 2012 and 2013. The musical explores the life of actress Marilyn Monroe from her childhood to her untimely death.

To help underwrite the cost of the concert production, and to assure that 100 percent of the proceeds went to help people in performing arts and entertainment who are in need, crisis, or transition, the Actors Fund announced that a Bombshell Kickstarter campaign would offer a 24-hour presale in advance of the April 14 ticket on-sale date. However, all tickets to the event sold out during that pre-sale, leaving no tickets to put on sale on the 14th.

"Based on the overwhelming response to this campaign and our presentation of Bombshell, we have spent the last month exploring every opportunity to allow more people to view (both live or virtually) this one-night-only event. But unfortunately, none of these options were viable and as a result there are some disappointed supporters who were unable to purchase one of the limited number of tickets available. As a gesture of good faith, we are offering a full refund to anyone who wants to withdraw their Kickstarter support. Even if you couldn’t get tickets, you’ve helped those in need in performing arts and entertainment—something The Actors Fund has been doing with respect and compassion since 1882. Your support assures that 100% of the ticket proceeds from this benefit concert will help actors, dancers, musicians, playwrights, directors and more. Thanks to your generosity, The Actors Fund will continue to be there for everyone in entertainment."
