Moose Murders: The Revival of an Epic Flop

The Beautiful Soup Theater Collective knows what we mean. They are producing the first New York revival of Arthur Bicknell’s 1983 Broadway flop, Moose Murders, to run January 29-February 10 at the Connelly Theatre. The original played Broadway’s Eugene O’Neill Theatre in early 1983, where it ran for 13 previews and one (one!) official performance.

The show, which has been revised by Bicknell, features a zany cast of characters – such as an off-key lounge singer, her blind accompanist, and a mummified paraplegic – not to mention a moose, murder, and incest.

Steven Carl McCasland will direct and appear in the revival. The cast will also feature Ali Bernstein, Cory Boughton, Dennis DelBene, Orlando Iriarte, Anna Kirkland, Caroline Rosenblum, Noelle Stewart, Jordan Tierney, and Brittany Velotta. The sets and costumes will be DelBene, with lighting design by Christopher D’Angelo.

A portion of box office proceeds for Moose Murders will benefit GLSEN: The Gay, Lesbian & Straight Education Network, which aims to create school environments where everyone is equally valued and respected, regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity/expression.
