All-Star Design Team Set for Broadway Premiere of Woody Allen’s Bullets Over Broadway

Tony winners abound in the musical adaptation of Allen and Douglas McGrath’s 1994 crime-comedy film.

Don’t shoot! We have Tonys!

Five time Tony Award-winning director/choreographer Susan Stroman (The Producers) will lead a superstar design team including three time Tony-winning set designer Santo Loquasto (Ragtime), five time Tony-winning costume designer William Ivey Long (Hairspray), two time Tony-winning lighting designer Donald Holder (The Lion King), and music supervisor Glen Kelly (The Producers) when she takes the helm of Woody Allen’s new Broadway-bound musical Bullets Over Broadway.

Set in 1920s New York City, Bullets Over Broadway is the story of an idealistic young playwright forced to accept a no-talent bimbo as the lead actress in his new play in order to score financial backing for a Broadway run from her mobster boyfriend. Huh…why didn’t the folks at Rebecca think of that?

Originally penned by Academy Award-winning writer and director Woody Allen and Academy Award-winning screenwriter Douglas McGrath, Bullets Over Broadway was nominated for seven Academy Awards in 1995 including “Best Art Direction-Set Decoration” for Santo Loquasto. Diane Wiest won for “Best Actress in a Supporting Role” for her portrayal of alcoholic Broadway diva Helen Sinclair.

The stage adaptation will feature a book by Woody Allen and a score that draws from existing music of the period. It is scheduled to arrive on Broadway some time in the 2013-2014 Season.
