Woodie King Jr. to Direct Castillo Theatre’s Mr Hirsch Died Yesterday

Woodie King Jr. will direct the Castillo Theatre’s production of Fred Newman’s play, Mr. Hirsch Died Yesterday, January 20-Februay 20.

The semi-autobiographical play, which was first produced in1986, focuses on what happens when a Jewish writer named Fred meets an African-American woman named Freda and find they share more than childhood memories.

The cast will feature Lindsay Arber, Dana Berger, Debbie Buchsbaum, Zoë Geltman, Joseph Mallon, Reynaldo Piniella, Ben Prayz, Katya Pucci, Moshe Yassurm, and Lenora Fulani, making her stage debut.

King is the founder and producing director of the New Federal Theatre.
