Portman and Millepied met while shooting the film Black Swan, which has earned the actress numerous critics awards, as well as a Golden Globe nomination and a Screen Actors Guild award nomination.

Portman has starred on Broadway in The Diary of Anne Frank and in the Shakespeare in the Park production of The Seagull.
