The Pee-Wee Herman Show, now playing at the Stephen Sondheim Theatre, will be turned into an HBO special for broadcast in 2011. The presentation will be taped at the theater after the production — which is directed by Alex Timbers — has concluded its run on January 2.

The show, which features a script by Reubens and Bill Steinkellner, is based on the character and original stage pieces created by Reubens, as well as the subsequent television series and movies in which he appeared. Along with Reubens, the company features John Moody (Mailman Mike), Drew Powell (Bear), John Paragon (Jambi), Jesse Garcia (Sergio), Phil LaMarr (Cowboy Curtis), Lynne Marie Stewart (Miss Yvonne), Lance Roberts (King of Cartoons) and Josh Meyers (Firefighter).

The show’s creative team includes Jay Cotton (original music), Basil Twist (puppet design), David Korins (scenic design), Ann Closs-Farley (costume design), Jeff Croiter (lighting design), M.L. Dogg (sound design), and Jake Pinholster (projection design).
