Screen Actors Guild Award Nominations Are Announced

Nominations for the Screen Actors Guild Awards were announced this morning. The awards will be bestowed in Los Angeles on Sunday, January 27 and broadcast live on TNT.

Theater veterans who received nominations for their film work were Cate Blanchett (Elizabeth: The Golden Age and I’m Not There), Julie Christie (Away From Her), Ruby Dee (American Gangster), Hal Holbrook (Into the Wild), Catherine Keener (Into the Wild), and Amy Ryan (Gone Baby Gone). In addition, the cast of Hairspray was nominated for Best Ensemble, often a harbinger of a Best Picture Academy Award nomination.

Stage actors recognized for their television work include Christina Applegate (Samantha Who), Alec Baldwin (30 Rock), Ellen Burstyn (Mitch Albom’s For One More Day), Glenn Close (Damages), Edie Falco (The Sopranos), Sally Field (Brothers and Sisters), Michael C. Hall (Dexter), Holly Hunter (Saving Grace), Kevin Kline (As You Like It), Debra Messing (The Starter Wife), Anna Paquin (Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee), Mary-Louise Parker (Weeds), Jeremy Piven (Entourage), Oliver Platt (The Bronx is Burning), Vanessa Redgrave (The Fever), Kyra Sedgwick (The Closer), Sam Shepard (Ruffian), Tony Shalhoub (Monk), John Turturro (The Bronx Is Burning), and Vanessa Williams (Ugly Betty).

In addition, Tony Award winner Charles Durning will receive the group’s Lifetime Achievement Award.
