No new Broadway musical this season is as widely anticipated as Disney’s The Little Mermaid, now in previews at the Lunt-Fontanne Theatre, with an official opening on January 10. Based on the beloved animated film of the same name — itself based on the classic Hans Christian Andersen story — The Little Mermaid tells the story of Ariel, who wishes to leave her undersea kingdom to find adventure and true love on land. TheaterMania recently spoke with stars Sierra Boggess, Sherie Rene Scott, Norm Lewis, and Sean Palmer, composer Alan Menken, and director Francesca Zambello about the extraordinary undertaking — and they also provided us with a sneak preview of some of the show’s musical numbers.
