Tony Award Winner Frances Sternhagen and More to Join Edie Falco in MTC’s The Madrid

Manhattan Theatre Club has announced additional casting for its production of Liz Flahive’s The Madrid, starring Tony and Emmy Award winner Edie Falco (The House of Blue Leaves, The Sopranos).

The world premiere production will begin preview performances on February 5 at New York City Center – Stage 1. Leigh Silverman (Golden Child) will direct the production, which will open officially on February 26.

The play tells the story of a kindergarten teacher who abandons her life and family, leaving her daughter to pick up the pieces.

Falco will be joined by two-time Tony Award winner Frances Sternhagen (The Heiress), Tony Award nominee John Ellison Conlee (Murder Ballad), Drama Desk Award winner Heidi Schreck (Circle Mirror Transformation), Phoebe Strole (Spring Awakening), and Christopher Evan Welch (The Pain and the Itch). Casting for two additional roles in the production will be announced in the coming weeks.

The creative team includes David Zinn (set design), Emily Rebholtz (costume design), Jeff Croiter (lighting design), Jill BC Du Boff (sound design), and Tom Kitt (original music).

Flahive received the 2008 Outer Critics Circle Award for her play, From Up Here. In addition, she has been a writer and story editor on Falco’s Showtime series Nurse Jackie.
