Sierra Boggess will play the lead role of “I” in the Broadway production of Rebecca, which will play the Broadhurst Theatre, with preview beginning March 27, in anticipation of an April 22 opening. As previously reported, the production will be co-directed by Michael Blakemore and Francesco Zambello.

Based on the classic novel by Daphne du Maurier novel, the musical features an original book by Michael Kunze, music by Sylvester Levay, English book adaptation by Christopher Hampton, and English lyrics by Hampton and Kunze. The show tells the story of Maxim de Winter, his new wife (“I”), and Mrs. Danvers, the controlling and manipulative housekeeper of Maxim’s West Country estate of Manderley — where the memory of his first wife, the glamorous and mysterious Rebecca, still casts a shadow.

Boggess received Drama Desk and Drama League nominations for her starring role as Ariel in the Broadway production of The Little Mermaid, and most recently appeared on Broadway in the revival of Master Class earlier this season. She also originated the role of Christine Daae in Love Never Dies, the sequel to Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Phantom of the Opera, and received an Olivier Award nomination for her work in the musical. She also played Christine in last month’s 25th Anniversary Concert of The Phantom of the Opera in London.

Graciela Daniele will create the musical staging for the show, which will feature scenic design by Peter J. Davidson, costumes by Jane Greenwood, lighting by Mark McCullough, special effects by Gregory Meeh and projections by Sven Ortel. Musical direction and supervision is by Kevin Stites.

Additional casting will be announced in the coming weeks.
