Emma Hunton, Alli Mauzey, Capathia Jenkins et al. Set for York’s December Readings

Partial casting has been announced for York Theatre Company’s next three offerings in its acclaimed Developmental Reading Series. All events take place at the theater at Saint Peter’s.

Pamela Hunt will direct Wicked Moon on Thursday, December 1 at 1:30pm. The musical features music by Varick Bacon, lyrics by Powers McElhone, and a book by Richard Aellen. Casting is to be announced.

Baby Jane Dexter, Emma Hunton, Capathia Jenkins, and AnnMarie Milazzo will star in Unexpected Joy on Friday, December 2, at 2pm. Book and lyrics are by Bill Russell, with music by Janet Hood. The reading is directed by Sheryl Kaller with music direction by Fred Lassen.

Who’s Your Mommy?, featuring music by Gerald Sternbach with book and lyrics by Elin Hampton, will be presented Tuesday, December 20, at 4pm. The cast will include Jared Bradshaw, Alison Cimmet, Alli Mauzey, Mary Gordon Murray and Elyse Wolf. The reading is directed by Lynn Taylor-Corbet, with music direction by Gerald Sternbach.

In related news, York Theatre Company has announced that this year’s Noël Coward Prize will go to Barry Wyner for his musical, Calvin Berger. The award goes to a promising librettist/composer/lyricist whose work best exemplifies the triple threat standards set by Coward. An invited one-night-only concert of selections from Calvin Berger and the Noël Coward catalog will be presented on Friday, December 16.
